The Beauty of Chinese culture

I like to show the beauty of Chinese culture in my classroom. It's such a pity that people only focus on the language itself and ignore how to appreciate other important sides of the culture, society, and its people.

I showed this short introduction of Chinese paiting. It's very short, but I think it's enough for new beginners. There is a short film that is made of traditional Chinese way of paiting. You will see how different it is from the Disney cartoons that we are all familiar with.

At our last lesson, you played some Chinese songs for us (from you "virtual Ipod" on your Blog), and I really liked them! But unfortunately I don't understand the Chinese characters all that well and I can't translate the singer's names and the song's titles. Could you tell me (in Pinyin, preferably) the names of a couple of Chinese songs from your Blog? That would be really nice! :)

Anyway, I'm sorry for taking your time!!
/Your student, Delfina. :)

PS: I really like you blog! It helps me with studying!

Hej Delfina

Sorry for replying so late, but I have been very late whole summer and frankly speaking, I need to be away from work a little..Now summer is almost over and it's time to be back. I am very glad that you like my blog and the material that I introduced. The songs presented in my blog come from different singers, styles, periods..therefore I really have no idea where to start to answer your questions. Personally, I like Chi-u very much. I will show you which one when we meet in school. She has very clear voice and is very good at folk songs no matter it's Chinese traditional folk songs or some other countries, she always make them so beautiful. As to the teenage pop king, Jay Chou , I also find him very smart and almost like genius in music. If you like, I will show you some of these works in translation in class with the whole class.

Looking forward to seeing you all!

Julie
